Forget-me-not

Forget-me-not is an annual or biennial plant with a taproot system and an upright, branched stem. The stem is 30-40 cm tall, hairy, branching started at the base or from the middle of the stem. The leaves are greyish green, short hairy on both sides. The leaves are arranged alternately, elongated lanceolate. Forget-me-not flowers are light blue with a yellow center, 2-5mm in diameter. Forget-me-not blooms from May until mid-autumn. The fruit is a shiny nut, black or dark brown in color, oval, slightly flattened. One plant gives, on average, 500 seeds, the germination of which lasts up to 3 years.

The entire surface part of the plant is used for medicinal purposes. Harvest the plant when it is in bloom. The collected plants are dried in the fresh air, in a place protected from the sun or in forced dryers, not exceeding a temperature of 40-50C. The dried plant is crushed and stored in paper or cloth bags for up to 2 years.

The forget-me-not contains tannins (5-6%), anthocyanin, saponins, flavonoids, potassium and vegetable fats.

Medicinal significance

The Forget-me-not of purity works as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bleeding and expectorant agent. It also helps reduce sweating. When using the preparations of the plant externally, it will help reduce itching and swelling, so it can be successfully used to treat eczema and various types of rashes. The plant has also been shown to have anti-tumor activity.

In folk medicine, forget-me-not is used in decoctions, infusions, extracts, teas, as fresh juice and in the form of powder. For medicinal purposes, folk medicine uses all parts of the plant.

A decoction of the root of the plant is applied externally to treat eye diseases. The settings are used for the treatment of diseases of the respiratory organs - in case of severe cough, bronchitis, coughing up blood, pulmonary tuberculosis.

A strong decoction of the plant is applied externally, in case of skin itching and rashes, as well as to treat dry eczema. For this purpose, plant compresses are also used or baths are made. The powder and fresh juice of the forget-me-not is used to treat malignant tumors of the genitals and oral cavity.

For men

The plant is used to treat age-related impotence, as well as to treat various internal tumors.

The plant is not recommended for children and women during pregnancy/lactation, as well as for people who are allergic to this plant.
